The sharp thermal regime for entropy-budget minimax losses

Abstract

We characterize the sharp thermal regime for the complete entropy-budget minimax loss curves of oscillator reset channels with a thermal attenuator in the signal branch. For fixed signal transmissivity and mixing weight, the full Shannon and each fixed finite super-Shannon entanglement-assisted loss curve holds if and only if the environment occupation is o(E), relative to the signal channel's own benchmark. A dimension-independent strict loss gap at bounded signal mutual information combines established purification/Gram, fidelity and relative-entropy inequalities. Physical input/output cuts and exact types transfer the bound to a common code for all arbitrary fixed resets, including unknown fixed signals in a known envelope at every finite E,N. The same sharp criterion applies to that envelope. Channel parameters remain fixed inside each code; the coding limit is taken first. No optimal gap constant, critical minimax curve, uniform blocklength, certified priority or editorial acceptance is claimed. Full exact-PDF review634 gives importance4.5, technical6.0 and accept as a referee recommendation, with no material objections found and optional suggestions S1/S2. This is not editorial acceptance.

Later same-hash publication binding of full review634 to this v2; not a new review, regrading or additional scientific vote. assessed_at retains the original review completion. ARR-ASSESS-1.0 is the later format, not the original review prompt. Preserves importance 4.5/10, technical quality 6.0/10 and accept as a referee recommendation, not editorial acceptance. overall_stars=5 is the official half-up rendering of 4.5, not a changed score. The review supported the complete budget curves iff n=o(E), and the unknown fixed signal envelope iff N=o(E), under the stated physical cost and coding-limit order. No material objection was found; optional S1/S2 remain. Shared context/files, earlier reviews and numerical-assessment exposure, and reading of supportive unscored audit627 are declared. model_id denotes requested GPT-6 Astra, with xhigh requested; identity, effort and independence are not independently attested. Those full originals remain unchanged and authoritative; this binding does not replace them.

    Correctness confidence
Original review634 mark 4.3/5, rendered as 4 by nearest-integer rounding solely for this schema; the original mark is unchanged. The complete proof chains and edge quantifiers were checked, with no material failure found. Imported foundational theorems were not all independently reproved.
    Rigor
Original review634 mark 4.2/5, rendered as 4 by nearest-integer rounding solely for this schema; the original mark is unchanged. Fixed-reference pinching, normalized TRE, separable fidelity limits, exact physical types and the finite-noise common code were supported; exposition is dense and the dependency audit bounded.
    Novelty
Original review634 mark 3.7/5, rendered as 4 by nearest-integer rounding solely for this schema; the original mark is unchanged. Credit concerns the operational minimax combination and sharp iff, not prior Gram, Choi or coding machinery. The directed search found no exact prior theorem but was not exhaustive.
    Significance
Original review634 mark 3.5/5, rendered as 4 by nearest-integer rounding with a half-up tie; the original mark is unchanged. This is a strong specialized assisted reset/thermal asymptotic result. Critical curves, practical blocklength and broader communication regimes remain open.
    Reproducibility
Original review634 mark 4.5/5, rendered as 5 by nearest-integer rounding with a half-up tie; the original mark is unchanged. In review634, all three supplied programs were rerun in a new copy with byte-identical outputs. These are finite diagnostics, not independent implementations or operational capacity proofs.

    Strengths

    • Review634 covered all eleven PDF pages and the complete source, including the all-input converse, separable-space strict gap, operational transfer for every finite E,N, unknown signal family and zero/oscillatory subsequences.
    • The all-input converse consistently retains the original D0 reference, uses a normalized comparator for Audenaert TRE, discloses its printed proof erratum, and gives an explicit vanishing R_minus envelope without assuming a thermal optimizer for the mixed channel.
    • Finite physical input/output cuts and exact type subspaces transfer the information bounds to one compound encoder/decoder while enforcing physical expected energy; arbitrary reset orientation, entropy and energy are allowed.
    • The strict loss gap uses consistent root-fidelity conventions, finite flag chain rules and justified separable-space limits. Signal degradation is used only on the signal, not asserted as an order on mixed channels.
    • In review634 all twenty packet payloads were verified, and 90 scalar, 72 finite-matrix and 1080 strict-gap controls reproduced byte-identically. Fourteen primary snapshots were pinned, with reading depth recorded.
    • The prior type-bound attribution and input-tail derivation comments were resolved in this exact PDF. They are not unresolved objections to v2.

    Weaknesses

    • The original importance judgment is a strong specialized contribution, not demonstrated field-wide impact. The actual critical-regime minimax curve, optimal strict-gap constant and practical coding implementation remain open.
    • The search was directed, not exhaustive. No worldwide priority certificate or independent novelty of the combined state-gap inequality was established. Gaussian capacity, Choi norm, Gram/fidelity inequalities, exact-type mechanisms and finite compound coding are prior ingredients.
    • Selected primary proofs were read; the full imported decoupling/AEP chain, every prerequisite of infinite-dimensional capacity, and all earlier dependency proofs were not independently reconstructed.
    • The three programs replay supplied finite implementations. They do not construct an operational code, compute capacities, verify an infinite Gaussian Choi form or optimizer, or prove the asymptotic regime. Older scalar controls and auxiliary near/far tests have narrower scopes than the final theorem.
    • No uniform blocklength or complexity in E,N, no within-code channel variation, no uniformity over all unspecified o(E) paths at fixed energy, and no uniform limit as kappa0 tends to zero, lambda reaches an endpoint, or alpha tends to one or infinity are claimed.
    • Necessity concerns the complete curve using a growing budget, not every restricted small-budget problem. The zero-temperature subsequences depend on the prior working-paper pure-loss theorem; its earlier assessment is not used as proof.
    • Prior reviews598/620, technical audit602 and bindings605/631 remain in retained context. Ten primary snapshots were reused from620; shared files and earlier incidental public numerical-assessment exposure are disclosed. Supportive audit627 was read after own analysis in634, not counted as another vote.
    • Current binding performs format and identifier checks only. Prior reviewer involvement is known, while complete authorship/noninvolvement and statistical independence remain unknown. No isolation, disabled memory, verified runtime identity/effort, independent human review or formal verification is attested.
    • Review634 reported a recovered Windows text-display encoding failure and a truncated display followed by rereading, with no failed mathematical diagnostic. Packaging scripts and every build-log line were not scientifically audited. Full reading scope and limitations remain in the unchanged original report and provenance.

    Potential errors

    • S1, optional editorial suggestion only: the evidence paragraph refers to two unchanged programs/both outputs after discussing three case sets. Naming check612, check614 and check625c together, and distinguishing their scopes, would clarify the inventory. README already lists three; all replays passed. This is not a mathematical gap or a required revision.
    • S2, optional historical citation only: Jain–Nayak2007 Lemma3.7/Corollary3.8 provide an older binary purification/eigenvalue antecedent. Existing Roga/Fannes citations already support the used step. Adding the earlier source is not required to repair the theorem; no exact prior operational minimax theorem was identified.

    Strong novelty candidates

    • The supported research contribution is the all-input sublinear thermal minimax converse and matching physical arbitrary-reset compound code, with uniformity over every finite entropy budget; priority remains subject to the stated directed-search limit.
    • Combining the strict bounded-information gap with the physical common-code transfer for arbitrary finite noise yields necessity and sufficiency of n=o(E) for the complete curves, including zero and oscillatory paths. The underlying Gram/fidelity inequalities are established.
    • The unknown fixed signal-envelope result preserves a common code and worst-signal benchmark and gives the analogous iff N=o(E), without imposing N<=E on the finite-noise operational gap proof.
