Coarse information and finite rank obstructions for flat lattice Hodge forms

Abstract

On a finite periodic lattice with unit spacing, a flat Hodge form cannot have a positive coercivity constant uniform under refinement when supplemented only by linear observations in a fixed finite-dimensional real space and linear fine-space repairs of uniformly bounded rank. We construct a real physical Fourier band, prove a necessary information budget and a separate bounded-rank sector obstruction, and explain why a classical singular-Schur condition prevents reversing that budget. Constructed derivative repairs and differentiable observations with locally upper-quadratic penalties admit tangent obstructions, including an exact regular nonlinear-sector argument. For nonnegative weights, a subquadratic directional spatial mean forces output-rank divergence. For signed weights, the spatial mean of the pointwise positive part gives a sufficient condition; ordinary signed means do not, as an actual fixed-output counterexample with every mean zero shows. An attributed classical square cancellation delimits the sufficient criterion; a finite-sum extension covering every eligible pair is displayed analytically. A full volume coexact packet also gives a quantitative rank budget under spatial means of the pointwise positive total coefficient on its two occupied field components. A derived integer cutoff yields positive output rank density on every sufficiently large lattice, while exact trace averaging improves a sufficient low frequency constant. Formal endpoints are separately pinned, and additional analytic arguments are identified. These are finite flat statements, with no interacting or continuum Yang–Mills mass-gap claim or new general spectral-principle claim. The integrated continuation also proves a critical inverse-moment sufficient condition for global spectral observations, together with limits on spatial localization. Rectangular means have a general upper bound with exponent d/4 and the target exponent d/2 for an explicitly restricted scaled-cube class. Two constructive counterexamples exclude a single-global-threshold algorithm and a universal exact cube decomposition, while preserving successful rectangular partitions for those same profiles. The general critical rectangular question remains open. Self-contained local and supplied-cube proofs are included, along with an actual physical fixed-map obstruction and its separately scoped exact finite penalty threshold. The present integrated revision adds positive matrix- gradient estimates, finite-rank signed spectral repair and an exact critical-penalty obstruction for prescribed rectangular means. Its leading penalty coefficient persists on actual flat coexact fields; the complete ambient scalar optimum is proved and accompanied by paired exact rational replay. These supporting results do not settle the general critical rectangular rank- order question. The spatial continuation derives an actual coexact point-support obstruction in dimension three, an arbitrary-geometry fixed-coefficient-gap rectangular construction, and local detours showing that even sharp minimum-based rectangle certificates can require unboundedly many cells where one mean suffices. An isospectral nonlocal graph example delimits spectral-only conversion. Complete analytical proofs and separately scoped exact finite reproductions are retained; the full critical rectangular question stays open.

Single fresh assessment of the exact 63-page v8 PDF: 4.20/10, rounded to 4 overall stars (Strong), with minor revisions recommended for this Working paper. This is a research-position rating, not a correctness probability or criterion average. No principal mathematical claim was invalidated in this reading. Retain threshold-convention, methodological-overstatement and lineage corrections, and all reproducibility, priority and continuum limitations. The reviewer has historical ancestor-review context in the same orchestrated account/chat; this is not blind or organizationally independent and is not human peer review. The configured model label is not served-backend attestation; backend identity and reasoning effort were not exposed. See scientific-review.md for the complete findings and evidence scope.

    Correctness confidence
Complete text and targeted source reading found no invalidation of a principal theorem. Section 29 calculations and quantifiers were checked analytically. No independent formal rebuild or full dependency audit was performed.
    Rigor
Explicit finite-dimensional proofs, constants, kernel conditions and counterexamples make the central arguments inspectable. Threshold-equality wording and an overly exhaustive methodological conclusion need correction.
    Novelty
The discrete weighted adapters and section 29 separation examples are plausible original contributions. Core Fourier, rank, Schur, Cwikel, partition and path-comparison tools are classical; exhaustive priority is unverified.
    Significance
Substantive finite obstructions and positive families clarify a constrained programme. The generic critical rectangular problem remains open, and no interacting continuum or Millennium solution follows.
    Reproducibility
The exact PDF and all 81 supplied manifest entries matched hashes; text, source and renders support inspection. Colab and formal evidence were read, not independently rerun; same-source clones do not establish independent proof replication.

    Strengths

    • Explicit Fourier-band dimension and rank-nullity arguments separate arbitrary measurements from bounded-rank sectors and preserve uniform quantifiers.
    • The manuscript carefully distinguishes finite rank obstructions, physical scaling, nonlinear/differentiable hypotheses and open continuum extensions.
    • Section 29 supplies useful distinctions: mean-zero low-rank graph obstructions, sampled coexact fields, a bounded two-scale positive family, local bypass coercivity and a sparse weak-site certificate obstruction.
    • The section 29 path comparison and minimum-coefficient counterexample have direct, inspectable calculations; the paper expressly distinguishes the nonlocal example from local lattice energies.

    Weaknesses

    • F4: Formal/replay assurance is incomplete in this review. No independent Lean rebuild, dependency closure or scientific rerun was performed. Finite tests and clones using the same code are not independent verification of universal theorems.
    • F5: Priority is not established beyond qualified candidates. Much of the machinery is classical; targeted checks of Frank, Diaconis-Saloff-Coste and de Berg do not amount to exhaustive literature verification.
    • F6: The generic critical rectangular problem remains open. These finite results do not construct an interacting continuum theory, establish a physical mass gap, or resolve a Millennium problem.
    • F7: The 63-page dossier contains a long abstract and repeated runtime/history material. A theorem/scope table and a separate evidence appendix would improve scientific readability without discarding objections.

    Potential errors

    • F1, p.59, section 29.3 final paragraph: the phrase at or above b about mandated singletons conflicts with the earlier strict a<tau isolation convention at tau=b. Use tau<=b for the mesh branch and tau>b for the singleton branch, or explicitly change the convention. The mesh argument covers equality; this does not invalidate the theorem.
    • F2, p.62 final paragraph before references: the statement that the next positive mechanism must use actual weighted local energy or capacity suggests an exhaustive necessity theorem not proved here. Recast as a research recommendation and limitation of the specific tested methods, not a classification of all possible proofs or hybrids.
    • F3, p.21 versus pp.44-45: immediate-predecessor wording referring to v5 conflicts with the identified v7 parent. Label the older historical comparison explicitly or update lineage wording. Related draft wording on p.55 should be clarified. This is a provenance/editorial issue, not a theorem failure.

    Strong novelty candidates

    • The exact finite rectangular-mean Schur threshold in section 29.1 and its contrast with an arbitrary two-set partition may be useful; general low-rank obstruction principles are classical and priority is unverified.
    • The section 29.2 explicit coexact sample-erasure construction and dimension-dependent support lower bound are plausible specialized contributions, with its changing physical scale explicitly retained.
    • The section 29.4-29.5 combination of local bypass coercivity and diverging minimum-coefficient-certified partition cost isolates a useful failure of that certificate class; comparison methods themselves are classical.
