Coarse information and finite rank obstructions for flat lattice Hodge forms
Citable version that has not completed AIRR screening. Not peer reviewed. Screening record
On a finite periodic lattice with unit spacing, a flat Hodge form cannot have a positive coercivity constant uniform under refinement when supplemented only by linear observations in a fixed finite-dimensional real space and linear fine-space repairs of uniformly bounded rank. We construct a real physical Fourier band, prove a necessary information budget and a separate bounded-rank sector obstruction, and explain why a classical singular-Schur condition prevents reversing that budget. Constructed derivative repairs and differentiable observations with locally upper-quadratic penalties admit tangent obstructions, including an exact regular nonlinear-sector argument. For nonnegative weights, a subquadratic directional spatial mean forces output-rank divergence. For signed weights, the spatial mean of the pointwise positive part gives a sufficient condition; ordinary signed means do not, as an actual fixed-output counterexample with every mean zero shows. An attributed classical square cancellation delimits the sufficient criterion; a finite-sum extension covering every eligible pair is displayed analytically. A full volume coexact packet also gives a quantitative rank budget under spatial means of the pointwise positive total coefficient on its two occupied field components. A derived integer cutoff yields positive output rank density on every sufficiently large lattice, while exact trace averaging improves a sufficient low frequency constant. Formal endpoints are separately pinned, and additional analytic arguments are identified. These are finite flat statements, with no interacting or continuum Yang–Mills mass-gap claim or new general spectral-principle claim. The integrated continuation also proves a critical inverse-moment sufficient condition for global spectral observations, together with limits on spatial localization. Rectangular means have a general upper bound with exponent d/4 and the target exponent d/2 for an explicitly restricted scaled-cube class. Two constructive counterexamples exclude a single-global-threshold algorithm and a universal exact cube decomposition, while preserving successful rectangular partitions for those same profiles. The general critical rectangular question remains open. Self-contained local and supplied-cube proofs are included, along with an actual physical fixed-map obstruction and its separately scoped exact finite penalty threshold. The present integrated revision adds positive matrix-gradient estimates, finite-rank signed spectral repair and an exact critical-penalty obstruction for prescribed rectangular means. Its leading penalty coefficient persists on actual flat coexact fields; the complete ambient scalar optimum is proved and accompanied by paired exact rational replay. These supporting results do not settle the general critical rectangular rank-order question.

Review input clarification
The author requested a genuine numerical star assessment after the original qualitative-only v7 report. One declared review produced3.0/10 and3stars; all findings and the full original report are retained. The served model identity and reasoning setting are unexposed; history/workspace and memory isolation are not established, and the manuscript prints historical assessments. This is limited AI evidence, not an identified-model admission quorum, independent human review or editorial acceptance. The original response used numeric version7; the reviewer corrected only that identifier to v7. Both responses and the context are retained. The original qualitative report remains unchanged.

Recommendation: Minor Revision · Material objections: 0
A substantive finite-lattice dossier whose displayed proofs support its scoped observation-budget and penalty conclusions. No main-invalidating error was found after inspecting every rendered page and checking the major Cwikel input against its primary source. The result is rated 3.0/10 on the Millennium significance/quality scale, with 3 overall stars and minor revision for presentation. Classical mechanisms, uncertain priority, global rather than rectangular observations, the unresolved critical rectangular construction and no interacting/continuum bridge limit the significance. Exact backend identity and prior participation are unknown; manuscript historical context makes this nonblind. No independent full formal rebuild or archive replay was performed.
- Correctness confidence
- All 58 rendered pages inspected. Fourier/rank, tangent-sector, inverse-flow, geometry and Schur/coexact arguments withstand analytic review; no main-invalidating error found. Complete formal dependency closure and execution archives are not_checked.
- Rigor
- Explicit hypotheses and quantifiers separate fixed/free penalties, kernel/full-space conclusions, real/complex multiplicities and ambient/coexact optima. Important continuation theorems remain analytic; finite diagnostics are correctly scoped.
- Novelty
- Central rank-nullity, Cwikel/Rumin, effective-resistance and Schur mechanisms are classical. Specific examples and finite adapters are plausible useful contributions, but exhaustive priority and strong originality are not_checked.
- Significance
- Substantive constraints and constructive counterexamples for a finite-flat observation problem. The unrestricted critical rectangular construction remains open; physical coefficient hypotheses, interacting and continuum conclusions are absent.
- Reproducibility
- Pinned source anchors and named endpoints describe an inspectable reproduction route, but independent Lean builds, full source/claim/dependency audit, archive verification and exact numerical replay are not_checked in this assessment.
Strengths
- The actual unit-spacing Hodge normalization, real Fourier band and separate full-space/sector rank budgets are explicitly derived.
- The regular-sector curve proof controls departure from the band through the quadratic form expansion and retains necessary regularity and penalty hypotheses.
- Signed positive-total-coefficient envelopes support genuine compression traces and a finite integer-tail volume-density bound.
- The global critical inverse-moment theorem and weak-box curls establish the sharp exponent within the specified scalar moment family.
- Explicit profiles separate failed dyadic/threshold mechanisms from successful unrestricted rectangular partitions on the same profiles.
- The prescribed-map penalty examples include all-field kernel premises, actual physical/coexact witnesses and an exact ambient optimum with a separately scoped coexact leading residue.
Weaknesses
- The unrestricted critical rectangular mean construction remains open; global spectral observations, the weaker D/4 bound and supplied-cube results do not resolve it.
- No interacting Hessian identification, physical coefficient distribution proof, continuum limit or Yang-Mills mass gap is obtained; physical rescaling changes the finite thresholds.
- Classical mechanisms account for most central tools, and an exhaustive priority comparison establishing originality of the specific synthesis is not_checked.
- Independent Lean rebuilding, complete dependency/source-to-claim audit, reproduction-archive verification and rational replay are not_checked; manuscript execution claims remain reported evidence here.
- The shared scalar coefficient theorem and full matrix-gradient theorem have different domains. Signed capped counts, actual selected-channel ranks and fixed-threshold counts must remain distinct.
- Many constants and density bounds are nonoptimal. The exact scalar ambient penalty is not established as the complete restricted coexact optimum, although the leading residue transfers.
- Operational history and historical assessments obscure the theorem structure. A compact theorem/hypothesis/verification map, supplemental workflow history and merged duplicate references would improve the paper.
Potential errors
None reported.
Strong novelty candidates
- Candidate only, priority unestablished: the concrete rectangular coefficient example with exact ambient penalty and actual coexact leading residue 16/5.
- Candidate only, priority unestablished: paired coefficient profiles that defeat restricted partition mechanisms while admitting explicit successful unrestricted rectangles.
- Candidate only, priority unestablished: the particular finite-flat synthesis of signed-envelope rank budgets and capped matrix-gradient spectral repair; its constituent mechanisms are classical.
